Storms and bad weather can be common across the world. Some areas of the world receive stronger storms than others, however regardless of how strong the storm can be it is important to remain safe and consider insuring your properties for if the worst was to happen.
For more information regarding how you can help keep safe and prevent risks occurring please continue to read this article for tips and guidance.
How can you protect your home from storm damage?
- Check your drains and gutters are clear of debris to prevent any blockages.
- Cut back trees and branches to minimise the risk of falling branches.
- Check that any roof tiles and aerials are secure if you can do this safely. It may be worth seeking a professional to complete the job if necessary.
- We recommend maintaining a minimum temperature of 12 degrees in the home during severe weather to protect pipes in particular from freezing.
1. Keeping an eye on the news
It’s always best to be prepared and keeping up to date with the upcoming weather in your country and location to help you prepare for necessary action to help minimise the risk to your property. Official news channels can provide information on the weather and the hazard level it may be and how to prepare for them if there is a high warning.
2. Loose slates and tiles off your roof
Anything from chimneys to roof tiles should be checked before any bad weather. With any high wind strength, slates and tiles can easily be dislodged and fall off the roof. This is not only a risk for your property but can also be dangerous for any pedestrian nearby or neighbouring property.
3. Frozen pipes
Pipes can burst during bad weather conditions and colder seasons causing water to freeze and expand causing a break in the pipe releasing thawed water. To help prevent this from occurring, you can maintain a regulated temperature throughout your property and making sure your pipes are properly insulated.
